Time stands still in the forgotten corners of the country. Political and economical disputes rummage through the history of our rich ancestry, making the days of peaceful coexistence long forgotten. At the end of the day, we all know the solution to end this long socio- economic religious dispute, but the question remains, do we have the courage to end it?
My creation, “IYKYK” or If you know, you know, throws this question to the society. Here, the Arch above is an architectural piece from the long-lost Ruplal House. A house, which once greeted the Viceroy with extravagance now operates as a shelter home, as a Mokam/Spice Market. Built in the same 18th century as Ruplal House, other buildings have been rescued and revamped as an historical site, but the same was not seen for Ruplal House.
Why? Is it because of belief? Majority vs Minority? A widening breach in mindset and faith that has tore the nation apart? Maybe? Maybe not. You know it. I know it. We all know it. Yet we remain silent, remain blind and let our roots wash away in time’s tide. Through my artistic journey, I thus, tried to make a call to my surrounding, to wake up, to save, to restore our life story- old and new- against all odds.
